Welcome to a world we we use the voice to bless.
We are an ever-changing community of singers who are
singing our love to life!
You are welcomed.
Do you love to sing? Don't read music? Always wanted
to sing in a group?
Join us in singing multi-cultural, heart-opening music
with a joyful and relaxed community of women.
No experience needed!
Begun in 1999 by Director Jane Lowey, Common Voices is a non-auditioned
women's chorus, which meets most weeks from September to May. Jane
often arranges songs to meet the needs of the voices that comprise the group. There
is no sheet music as we learn by listening and repeating. We focus on the process of being together and finding our authentic voices,
more than we focus on performing concerts. However, each spring we have a concert to share what we have learned
with family , friends and the wider community. Though many of us have little or no experience, we magically create beautiful
music.
Over the past 8 years, hundreds of women have come in and out of the chorus,
but the core group remains steady at about 35-40 women. Each member is encouraged
to experiment with her voice and sing in different sections. We have
a short period of warm-ups each week, and some simple instruction on how to support the voice...the person. We play, we sing, and we make wonderful music!

We gather for 10 weeks in the fall, and take the time off over the holidays.
We resume the winter/spring session on January 30, 2008 for another 15 weeks
followed by a spring concert in early May.

"When we raise our common voices
in the key of who we are-
We unleash a mighty wave of sound.
Sent shimmering to the stars.
Though gravity may hold us
as life and love unfold us,
Our circle will embolden us.
Our songs forever free.
Now our songs traverse the heavens,
and through space and time impart,
The stories of our precious lives
Our melodies of the heart."
